What group is most disadvantaged in the state of California? The mentally ill? Unhoused persons? Racial minorities? Undocumented persons? Substance users? Victims of domestic abuse and human trafficking? Criminals? YES. As a CDC or DSH mental health provider, you serve the population with the highest needs in our state.
But if this work was easy, the problem would have been solved long ago. To start serving this population, credentials are required. A work contract is required. A dozen types of annual training compliance are mandatory, and withholding for half a dozen mandatory programs will reduce your pay. Actually, there's a union involved. Fixes to vacation or retirement problems literally require an act of congress. Some of the barriers are reduced for private contractors...so I founded Funk and Associates in 2015 to support my own transition from civil servant to contract psychiatrist at the California Department of State Hospitals. The change mitigated some of the frustrations; but middlemen still added friction and cost.
Times have changed. Funk and Associates is still a small operation, but now, we serve DSH as a direct vendor, and CDCR through the DMHRN agreement. You won't find a better rate for locums, relief, or contract psychiatry service at any institution we serve. The psychology and LCSW rates are also at or near the top. Our competition simply can't match zero overhead. In short, you might find a little friction here, in your efforts to serve our disadvantaged population, but there won't be much cost.
Funk and Associates is not run by a businessman. There aren't any MBAs here trying to monetize our educational content or manage a subscription model. We don't have an answering service to give you the run around. The paperwork we have, I wrote. I'm just here to help you get the best rate there is.
